DataSilo® 19″ Thunderbolt V – the new rackmount RAID for professional workflows
The DataSilo® 19″ Thunderbolt V is a 24-bay rackmount RAID system for SAS and SATA drives, developed specifically for performance-hungry media workstations. It combines Thunderbolt 5 connectivity with a proven, reliable RAID controller in a 19-inch chassis – setting a new benchmark for external RAID storage in professional environments.
As the successor to proven Thunderbolt 3 rackmount systems, the DataSilo® 19″ Thunderbolt V doubles the available I/O bandwidth while keeping the architecture, RAID management and operational reliability unchanged at enterprise level.
Thunderbolt 5: double the bandwidth, same connector
Thunderbolt 5 delivers up to 80 Gbit/s – twice as much as Thunderbolt 3. The DataSilo® 19″ Thunderbolt V leverages this bandwidth to guarantee reproducible throughput values even under highly parallel workloads.
The two Thunderbolt 5 ports on the chassis simultaneously support:
- Thunderbolt 5 (up to 80 Gbit/s bidirectional)
- USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbit/s) and USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5 Gbit/s)
- USB 2.0 via the same USB-C connector
- DisplayPort output for direct monitor connection
- RJ45 management port for WebGUI remote administration
SFF-8644 expansion port: up to 256 drives
The DataSilo® 19″ Thunderbolt V features an integrated SFF-8644 expansion port for external 12G SAS expander units. This allows the system capacity to be scaled far beyond the 24 internal bays – up to 256 drives in combination with compatible JBOD expansion chassis.
Existing SAS expander infrastructure can be seamlessly reused, making the system not only a powerful standalone solution, but also the core of a growing storage architecture.
RAID levels, drives and operating system compatibility
The DataSilo® 19″ Thunderbolt V operates independently of the operating system and requires neither additional software nor drivers. It supports all common operating systems:

Intelligent cooling – quiet, efficient, reliable
The DataSilo® 19″ Thunderbolt V uses brushless fans with automatic speed control. The system continuously adapts its cooling performance to current ambient conditions and load levels.
This feature is a decisive advantage particularly in recording studios and video suites where background noise must be avoided.
Upgrading from Thunderbolt 3 – a seamless transition
The DataSilo® 19″ Thunderbolt V retains the proven chassis dimensions and drive capacity of its Thunderbolt 3 predecessors. For existing customers with rackmount infrastructure already in place, the transition requires no structural changes.
The architecture, RAID management and user interface – including the LCD panel and WebGUI – remain unchanged. Only the bandwidth doubles.
